中國和美國雙邊關係持續惡化之際，美國國務卿蓬佩奧和中國外長王毅今天會面，但一開始氣氛就冷若冰霜，兩人相互宣洩不滿。
路透社報導，蓬佩奧（Mike Pompeo）與王毅在北京釣魚台國賓館會面，交談時雖有常見的客套外交辭令，也強調合作的必要性，但他們一開始在記者面前的發言異常尖銳。
王毅對蓬佩奧表示：「最近一段時間，美方在不斷升級對華貿易摩擦的同時，又在台灣等問題上採取了一系列損害中方權益的行為，並且無端指責中國的內外政策。」
他又說：「這些做法直接衝擊了雙方的互信，給中美關係的前景蒙上了陰影。…我們要求美方立即停止錯誤言行。」
蓬佩奧則向王毅表示：「針對你所描述的問題，我們基本上意見不同。」蓬佩奧剛赴平壤與北韓領導人金正恩會面，此行向王毅提出說明。
「我們對中國採取的行動極為擔憂，我希望今天有機會一一討論，因為我們雙方的關係十分重要。」
美國國務院高層官員表示，美國仍希望與北京當局合作，致力推動北韓去核化。中國是北韓主要盟友。
這名官員表示：「我確實希望如此。這是非常重要的議題，他們承認、接受也瞭解這點。」
