二度競選紐約州第22選區州參議員的民主黨參選人郭納德(Andrew Gounardes)，將在11月普選中面對現任共和黨籍州參議員高頓(Marty Golden)，第11選區州參議員民主黨候選人劉醇逸，11日前往布碌崙(布魯克林)為他站台背書；而州長葛謨(Andrew Cuomo)也傾全力助民主黨重奪州參議會，為郭納德等籌款助選。
劉醇逸說，郭納德雖然年輕，但已有在社區服務的多年經驗；高頓自2002年成為州參議員至今，「是時候注入新血，迎來新的改變」。他表示，郭納德了解現今快速增長的亞裔社區，能為社區帶來好的改變，自己期待明年成為郭納德在州參議會的同僚。
郭納德也重申自己支持保留特殊高中入學考試(SHSAT)制度，表示有流言說自己支持改革特殊高中是「完全錯誤的謊言」；他說，自己參加此前在市政廳舉行的支持SHSAT集會，也出席相關討論會，並「一直強硬表明反對市長白思豪的改革」。
他也承諾，當選後將提供經費給學校，並嘗試在布碌崙南區爭取建設更多特殊高中，為學生帶來優質教育。
談及華裔社區關注的大麻合法化問題，郭納德表示支持吸食大麻非刑事化(Decriminalize)，但不贊同全面合法化；過去的紀錄顯示，吸食大麻而被判入獄的罪犯多為少數族裔，大麻非刑事化能讓他們免受不公平待遇、成為攻擊目標而被判入獄。
但他也表示，大麻全面合法化將對紐約市帶來危機，他希望能從醫學角度幫助上癮之人，通過藥物治療讓他們重獲新生。
